This application will be reviewed by a RAISE program committee member and a suitable mentor will be assigned. Mentees will receive six (6) eSPEAR continuing education credits for their participation in this program.
Please note - enrollment in this program is dependent on the availability of program mentors.
The Office of Research encourages those who have in depth knowledge of research administration to apply as a mentor in this program. In addition to obtaining eSPEAR continuing education credit, mentors in this program will see many professional growth and career benefits, including:
- Leadership development
- Management experience
- Communication skills enhancement
- Recognition as a leader in the field
Want to learn more? Please see the FAQs below, or the Program Description for more detailed information.
Interested in applying? Please fill out the Mentor Application and a RAISE committee member will reach out to you.
What will I learn as a mentee in this program? Is there a set curriculum?
No, there is no defined curriculum that will be covered in this program. Mentors and mentees will ultimately decide on the topics which are most pertinent. However, for reference, the RAISE Program Guide offers a list of topics which may be covered.
What is the time commitment for the 6-month program?
Mentors and mentees will ultimately set their own meetings schedules, with most meeting on either a weekly or biweekly basis. It's advised that those enrolled in this program do not exceed 24 total hours of meeting time over the 6-month program period (i.e., approximately one hour if meeting weekly, or two hours for biweekly). Additional time may be required to complete assigned tasks, research topics, etc.
Do I need prior approval to apply for this program?
It's recommended that you speak to your immediate supervisor if interested in applying to this program - particularly concerning the time commitment mentioned above. Ultimately, if/when you're enrolled in the program you will be responsible for managing your overall time commitment.
Who is the target audience for this program?
This program is for those involved with sponsored project administration. This includes, but is not limited to, new departmental research administrators, budget managers, and more.
Will mentors/mentees meet in person, or virtually?
It's your decision! Some pairings may wish to meet in person (e.g., to allow the mentee to "shadow" their mentor as they work, or attend a training/workshop together). Others may find that virtual meetings work best. Mentor groups will ultimately decide which format works best based on the type of topics covered.
I'd like to become a mentor. Do I need to wait until an open enrollment period to apply?
No, applications for mentors are accepted on a continual basis. For those wishing to participate as a mentor please fill out the Mentor Application Form and a RAISE program coordinator will reach out to you.
Is enrollment in the program guaranteed?
No, enrollment in this program as a mentee is dependent on mentor availability. However, those who request enrollment as a mentee and are not accepted for that current cycle will be automatically enrolled in the next program cycle if they still wish to participate.
Can I receive eSPEAR credit for participating in this program?
Yes! Mentees will receive six (6) credits per calendar year, while mentors will receive eight (8).
Who do I contact if I have questions?
The RAISE program committee can be reached via email at RAISE@fsu.edu.
