Requirements for Acknowledging Federally-Supported Research (DHHS, NIH, DoL, DoEd) in publications, press releases and other public facing documents.

The Stevens Amendment is a federal disclosure requirement first enacted through Section 511 of Public Law 101-166. The provision is included in annual appropriations legislation for certain programs funded by the Departments of Labor (DoL), Health and Human Services (DHHS), and Education (DoEd). 

When Stevens Amendment compliance is required, the requirement is generally identified in the Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO), Notice of Award (NoA), or other award terms and conditions. The NIH is part of DHHS and compliance with the Stevens Amendment is required for all NIH awards. Recipients should review award documentation carefully to determine applicability.
